When Fund-Raising and Program Goals Clash

Avoiding Discord Between Fund Raisers and Program Employees

This week I participated in an exceptional, candid live chat with Caroline Preston from the the Chronicle of Philanthropy and Lauren J. Hines of the Council for Court Excellence discussing how fund raisers and program workers can bridge gaps and stay focused on their shared goal of supporting their group's mission.

Here are a couple key questions that we responded to:

    • How can program staff influence proper balance when senior development and executive staff try to steer programming to appeal to prospective funders?
    • How do you balance the need for pathos with the responsibility of protecting recipients' dignity?
Take a look at the transcript and let me know what you think about this complex topic.
